The National Community Tax Coalition (NCTC) maintains and expands access to the tax system and tax credits for millions of low-wage workers and their families each year. NCTC focuses in particular on the thousands of working families served by free tax preparation and asset building programs nationwide.
In past years, the EITC has come under Congressional and Administrative attack and affiliates have banded together to fight against drastic cuts in the credit. NCTC and its affiliates have also stood strong in the face of proposals that would discourage or deny the EITC to low-income families, specifically by adopting a pre-certification and targeted audit program of EITC taxpayers. Most recently, NCTC was successful in getting the federal VITA Grant Program adopted, $8 million in new funding to enable free tax preparation programs to extend their desired services into hard-to-reach communities.
In the current climate of Congressional leaders and the President-Elect proposing to make the tax code more progressive, NCTC aims to be the leading advocate for low-wage workers on issues related to fair tax policy and greater financial security.
